Individual Counseling
"Therapy is a gift. It's a chance to finally be heard, understood, and supported."
-Bessel Van Der Kolk
Are you wondering if individual therapy is right for you?
Individual therapy can support you in navigating anxiety, stress, and overthinking, as well as feelings of depression, sadness, or a lack of motivation. It can help you process grief, loss, and life transitions, and build greater self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth. Therapy also provides a space to improve communication and navigate relationship challenges, manage anger or intense emotions, and work through trauma or past experiences that still affect you today. Many people also use therapy to explore their identity, prevent burnout, or cope with work-related stress. It can help you set healthy boundaries, become more assertive, and find motivation to move past procrastination and toward your goals. Whether you’re feeling disconnected, facing big life decisions, or wanting to break old patterns, individual therapy offers support and guidance to help you grow and move forward.
How Individual Therapy Works and What to Expect:
Here’s an overview of the way things happen in individual therapy, from first contact through ongoing sessions and ultimately moving on.
1.
Initial Contact & Assessment:
Things begin with a consultation call or intake session so I can get to know you, your history, your concerns, your goals, and answer any questions you might have.

3.
Setting Goals & Direction:
Together we will identify goals and objectives that address your presenting concerns. These goals will be like the roadmap to living a more enriching life.
5.
Ongoing Review & Adjustment:
Throughout treatment, we will periodically assess how things are going to determine what's shifting, what's stuck, and whether new goals or strategies are needed.
2.
Connection and Trust:
The foundation of effective therapy begins with developing a sense of trust, comfort, and mutual understanding. Building this connection takes time and is an important part of the process. Having good rapport sets the stage for deeper more meaningful work.
4.
Insight & Skill-Building:
Sessions will often include exploring your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and life experiences, including patterns that may have been unconsciously influencing your behavior.
6.
Ending Treatment:
Once you have met your goals and feel ready to move on we will review what you’ve learned, what your supports and resources you have, and how to maintain gains post-therapy.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions and answers:
-
How long does therapy last?
-
There’s no fixed length. Some issues may be addressed in a few months; others (especially complex, deep work) may take years.
-
-
How frequent are sessions typically?
-
Most clients meet weekly or biweekly. Early on, more frequent sessions can help establish momentum.
-
-
What if I don’t feel better right away?
-
Therapy is often gradual and can feel challenging. It’s normal to have setbacks or slower phases. The important thing is persistence and open communication with your therapist.
-
-
Do you take insurance?
-
I currently do not accept insurance, but I can give you a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance company about your out-of-network benefits, including your deductible and how much they’ll cover per session. Many PPO plans offer partial reimbursement. Keep in mind that insurance companies require a diagnosis on the superbill, which becomes part of your health record.

-
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
-
That’s completely fine and may happen at times. If you are unsure of where to begin or what to talk about in general we can explore that together and follow what feels most important to you.
